Action Inspires Action

Today, I would like to pass along a gentle reminder the Universe shared with me.

Cocoa Beach has many phases. It is currently in the rebuilding phase that brings in loads of seaweed and broken shells. Even though the seaweed can become quite stinky, that small flaw is easily overlooked and embraced with love because of the other qualities and benefits.

The benefit I love most is that the seaweed builds our beaches. The sand gets caught in seaweed and our beach fills out. I am especially grateful this year as this is predicated to be a heavy Atlantic storm season. It is always good to begin with a healthy beach :-)

The other benefit is that the seaweed seems to be a part of the 'self-cleaning' system of the ocean. It brings a LOT of plastic, discarded shoes, glasses and other human-made debris to the shore.

There are many of us morning walkers who come out with bags and pick up trash as we enjoy our morning walks.

Yesterday, I was really surprised how many people stopped me to thank me. (it isn't the first time I've been out picking up trash, but it was the first time people had thanked me.) My canned response was I cannot do everything, but I can do something!

This morning, I was pleasantly surprised that a couple of people that thanked me yesterday had picked up a couple of things and deposited them in my trash bag as we passed. (They, too, are 'doing something' even when they can't do everything!)

Even MORE astonishing was that a mother and daughter visiting from Houston brought their OWN bag out onto the beach and was cleaning the beach as they walked. They shared they were inspired by my action and wanted to join in the effort.

Action inspires action.

The message is this -- your actions matter. What you do, inspires others.(good and bad!)

Are you seeking to shift the behavior around you?

If yes, what small actions could you begin to make a habit that may inspire others to do the same?

  • Perhaps it is something as simple as smiling when you pass someone and offer a good morning or hello.
  • Maybe it is showing a supportive tone and giving encouragement, gratitude or praise in the workplace and at home.
  • For others, it could be choosing the activities that you would like your children to emulate from foods you eat, to 'playing' outdoors and treating one another with respect at all times.

Wishing you a positive action-inspired day!
